OUTDOOR REPORT: Area fishing report

We found a sitter from our old neighborhood and made arrangements. We asked our friends what they paid theirs, took some other factors into account and paid the sitter when we got home. She was satisfied, so we figured we had calculated correctly. But knowing the going rate in our area would have been incredibly helpful. Knowing we are not alone, Grand Rapids Kids surveyed local parents to answer the age-old question: How Much do we pay our Grand Rapids Babysitters? Rates Vary by Area We surveyed people from all over Kent county, as we wanted the average babysitter rate in each zip code. Parents in East Grand Rapids averaged the highest:

Only for runners or good mountain bikers September, by mystang52 I rode the entire length from Nyack to the end at Haverstraw on my hybrid bike. It became a quixotic quest once I started, but frankly it was not fun, and maybe dangerous. A couple of steep hills, but numerous other rolling hills. On the downhills easy to pick up speed too dangerous for the crushed gravel surface. I never spun out or fell, but I can see that one could easily do so.

This was a scenic trail, but I was too busy white-knuckling to have the time ti take in the view!

August, by plesorgen My wife and I did this trail on a weekday in August. We started in parking lot D, then rode north to the lighthouse, and then we turned around and continued to ride into Sea Bright. The trail was great, open, and pretty empty on a weekday. I would imagine it is packed on the weekends, especially in summer. It is flat, for the most part open, and there are rest rooms along the way. We had lunch in Sea Bright, and then returned to our car.

The easiest way from West Yellowstone was actually driving through the park again. The roads are easily navigated by even the largest rig thankfully. We had originally planned to stay in a campground for a night near Jackson since we had already been boondocking the past five days and needed to dump, fill up, and shower. I also spoke with the district ranger and there are spots along Gros Ventre Rd, both dispersed and a large boondocking National Forest Campground.

Both spots were listed in The Days End Directory and it mentioned that the view from antelope flats was an amazing, clear view of the Tetons. That clinched it for us. They were right, the view was simply amazing. There were around seven sites, half of them would fit large units. There were also several dispersed spots if you continued past the campground.

When the chinook salmon, or otherwise known as king salmon, start their annual migration up the tributaries of Lake Michigan, a chain reaction of events begins to take place. It’s this time of year when Ludington, Manistee and Muskegon start to attract thousands of fishermen. If you talk to anyone who fished the salmon run last year, it was a year of big fish. Now, the rumors are starting to swirl that not only will this year have big fish, but there’s going to be even more of them.

A lot of this has to do with the fact that there has’t been very hard winters over the past couple seasons so more baitfish have survived. As of now, the water levels are still great. Rain has been in the forecast, as has colder weather, so fish are going to be on the move. Salmon Lures So, this is all well and good, but how do you go about actually catching these Michigan monsters? Well, right now in the early season, salmon are crushing crank baits like Thundersticks or other similar lures.

Likely Minnesota Laker Waters September 30, You don’t have to drive to Canada for a chance at some tasty lake trout. By Ron Hustvedt Jr. Photo by Ron Anlauf. Lake trout are fussy eaters and ice-fishing for them can test an angler’s patience. Hook up with one, however, and you’ll be addicted, especially if you love the taste of fish. According to the DNR, lake trout swim in thousands of acres of Minnesota waters, but the biggest populations are found in Cook, Lake and St.

Louis counties that form the tip of the state’s Arrowhead region. The list may be deceiving — many of the lakes haven’t been stocked in decades or lack recent DNR reports — but the lakes listed below offer some of the finest lake trout ice-fishing in Minnesota, according to local sources and DNR fisheries offices. Lake trout anglers are no different than their open-water counterparts in that they love to fish the opener. Depending on where you go fishing, the opener begins in late December or early January, so check the regulations.

The Grand River in southern Michigan has been my home river for more than 50 years. I still have vivid memories of pedaling my bicycle as a young boy to the Red Cedar River, a major tributary to the Grand that was less than a mile from my parents house. When I was 11 a smallmouth bass of very large proportions for a river bass grabbed by night crawler rigged on a harness.

After what seemed to be an eternity, I wrestled the bronze fish onto the bank. While the river was my childhood playground and a special place, all was not always well. I witnessed in agony several fish kills due to toxic discharges and dissolved oxygen depletions from rain following dry wether periods that washed waste with a very high oxygen demand from catch basins into the river.

Toilet paper clinging to your line was a constant nuisance and in some years weed growth from the heavy nutrient load choked the river and made it virtually unfishable. Fast forward to a few years ago finds me standing in the same reach of the Red Cedar in March battling my first steelhead on a fly. A steelhead in the Red Cedar represents the fact that the good ole days of fishing in the Grand River watershed are occurring as you read this.
