Interactive Workshops and Panels Thursday, June 19, , 3: How much do students learn from the lecture? The research literature now abounds with demonstrations and reviews of active learning, experiential learning, and constructivist learning e. How much information should students learn anyway? Association of College and Research Libraries, ?

In this interactive workshop, I will first model implementing information literacy skill development into a lecture and then engage the participants in a discussion on helping students develop information literacy skills to foster active, personally-motivated, life-long learning. I have chosen this class because fuzzy animals tend to evoke emotion over critical thinking and because most STLHE participants will be able to relate to the topic.

However, I use the same approach in very large student introductory psychology classes and the approach is relevant to a wide range of introductory and upper level lecture and seminar courses. Its aim is to serve as a possible solution to overcome increased student apathy to course material, educators, and academic institutions as a whole Fredrick et al.

It is based on the idea of empowering students to collaborate and innovate early in their academic careers and within the classroom environment Kezar, Using the example of a second year neuroscience course titled Basic and Clinical Neuroscience with an enrolment of students, workshop participants will learn how MacEngaged has been implemented in a classroom environment containing a large student body.

Here in Vermont the affair was not so picturesque as it might have been on the Western prairies. Oh, it had its points: But the occasion was essentially serious. All of America was serious now, after the seven years of depression since It was just long enough after the Great War of for the young people who had been born in to be ready to go to college The features of this night among the Rotarians were nothing funny, at least not obviously funny, for they were the patriotic addresses of Brigadier General Herbert Y.

Nor could any social-minded patriot sneeze at her recent somewhat unappreciated effort to maintain the purity of the American Home by barring from the motion-picture industry all persons, actors or directors or cameramen, who had: Gimmitch thought very highly of Queen Mary, or c declined to take an oath to revere the Flag, the Constitution, the Bible, and all other peculiarly American institutions. Most of the ladies and more than half of the gentlemen wore evening clothes, and it was rumored that before the feast the inner circle had had cocktails, privily served in Room of the hotel.

The tables, arranged on three sides of a hollow square, were bright with candles, cut-glass dishes of candy and slightly tough almonds, figurines of Mickey Mouse, brass Rotary wheels, and small silk American flags stuck in gilded hard-boiled eggs. On the wall was a banner lettered “Service Before Self,” and the menu—the celery, cream of tomato soup, broiled haddock, chicken croquettes, peas, and tutti-frutti ice-cream—was up to the highest standards of the Hotel Wessex. They were all listening, agape.

A long sidewalk plaque at the foot of Yonge Street promotes the myth that Yonge Street is the world’s longest street. The section of Yonge between Front and Queen Streets passes through the Financial District typified by large office buildings, most of them built in the s or later, but with several beautiful older exceptions.

If you want to have a good look at the skyscrapers of the Financial District, walk west from King Subway Station to the corner of King and Bay Streets. In addition, Massey Hall is located just to the east on Shuter Street. From College Street north to Bloor Street, Yonge Street serves smaller street-level retail, mostly in two- to three-storey buildings of a hundred years’ vintage.

The businesses here, unlike the large chains which dominate south of Gerrard Street, are mostly small independent shops and serve a dense residential community on either side of Yonge Street with amenities such as convenience stores.

Accepted May 1, Abstract Mentoring is important for early-career HIV researchers; it is key for work satisfaction, productivity, workforce diversity, and retention of investigators in a variety of research settings.

Establishment of multidisciplinary research projects often is accomplished through mentoring. The work of early-career HIV investigators frequently requires networks of collaborators, and networking is regularly facilitated by mentors. A structured mentoring program that avoids unnecessary conflicts or time burdens and connects early-career investigators with senior mentors from different disciplines may stimulate new networking possibilities and lead to effective collaborations among investigators with different skills and perspectives.

Effective mentoring by focused mentors will likely contribute to the skills and networks of investigators necessary for the next generation of HIV investigators. In addition, clinical, behavioral, and translational research have led to the approval of 31 different antiretroviral medications that interfere with HIV replication based on six different mechanisms of action.

Furthermore, new investigations that focus on operations research, especially conducted internationally, are transforming the clinical battle against HIV in developing countries.
